Sauté Job Training Program

Sauté is a 12-week immersive culinary job training program available to income-eligible individuals. As a service of Utah Community Action’s Adult Education Program, Sauté is a part of our holistic approach to ending poverty in Utah.

Sauté helps students to become competitive in the culinary job market, increase their income-earning potential, and build upon their strengths to reach self-reliance for themselves and their families.

ServSafe® is a nationally recognized food and safety certification and an industry standard qualification for managerial-level restaurant staff.

All of our Sauté students take the ServSafe® exam.

Our Curriculum

Our experienced chefs know what it takes to succeed in this industry. They’ve tailored our program to ensure our graduates feel confident applying their skills.  Our students are trained in:

Our Graduates

Café Evergreen

In 2014, Utah Community Action partnered with Salt Lake County to provide food in Evergreen Café in the Millcreek Senior Center. Graduates serve seniors and the center's clientele, and build upon their training. In 2019, this contract expanded to include services in Midvale and Draper Senior Center Cafés.

Sauté Catering

In 2015, we began our catering enterprise as another way for students and graduates to gain valuable employment experience . All profits generated from catering events go back into our job training and Head Start programs.

Beyond

Graduates of Sauté have gone on to gain employment in the food service industry, advance in their culinary careers, and even start their own catering companies.

Our Mission

We’re committed to doing everything we can to help income-eligible Utah individuals and families reach their goals. By providing avenues for adults to gain the education, job-training, and industry connections they need to earn a livable wage, we help our clients to build futures they are proud of.

Our goal is for 90% of our Sauté graduates to gain employment or a promotion within 3 months of graduation.
